{"id":2087,"date":"2021-02-25T08:00:04","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T08:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/?p=2087"},"modified":"2021-03-10T21:47:43","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T21:47:43","slug":"telehealth-survey-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/telehealth-survey-21\/","title":{"rendered":"New Poll Finds Kansas Voters Want Telehealth to Stay"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/kansas-telehealth-survey-results-public\/\">New research<\/a><\/strong> finds that 86% of Kansans support expanding or maintaining telehealth services to access health care after the COVID-19 pandemic ends, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/thsurvey21\">statewide poll<\/a> of voters conducted in February. In 2020, the federal government, states, and private payers lifted previous restrictions on the use of telehealth to enable safe access to health care during the pandemic. Kansas moved to temporarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/coronavirus\/article241409901.html\">expand access<\/a> to telehealth early in the pandemic, but those changes, popular with consumers, are set to run out before the end of 2021.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/kansas-telehealth-survey-results-public\/\">View the Kansas Telehealth Survey Results<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The poll, conducted for the Health Fund and <a href=\"https:\/\/reachhealth.org\/new-poll-finds-kansas-voters-want-telehealth-to-stay\/\">REACH Healthcare Foundation<\/a> by GS Strategy Group, found that 48% of Kansans have utilized telehealth. Nationally, prior to the pandemic, just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/industries\/healthcare-systems-and-services\/our-insights\/telehealth-a-quarter-trillion-dollar-post-covid-19-reality\">11% were using telehealth<\/a>. Kansans said they utilized telehealth for routine check-ups, mental health needs, and medication consultations, among other services. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>\u201cKansans have eagerly adopted telehealth and now choose it for everything from medication consultations, to annual check-ups, to regular therapy sessions. Protecting and expanding access to telehealth is a common-sense approach to ensure that Kansans continue to receive quality health care when and where they need it,\u201d <\/em>said United Health Ministry Fund CEO David Jordan.<em> <\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A majority of voters say that telehealth can help to drive\r\ndown health care costs without negatively impacting quality of care. Voters\r\ncited personal safety from COVID-19, access to doctors and specialists, elimination\r\nof travel, and time savings as the top reasons to use telehealth. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Telehealth Stakeholder Briefing March 5 2021\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/520079508?h=a849a80a5f&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"640\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe>\r\n<\/div><figcaption>The Health Fund and REACH Healthcare Foundation held a stakeholder briefing March 5 to walk through research results and answer questions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/thsrv21btn\/\"><em><strong>Expanding Access to Telehealth in Kansas: Results by the Numbers<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The poll, which reached 800 Kansas voters, found strong\r\nsupport for telehealth across party lines, geographies, and ages: <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>85% of Kansans think that telehealth has been\r\nhelpful in meeting their care needs. <\/li><li>90% of Kansans think that telehealth is a good\r\nway to access care without taking time away from work or family.<\/li><li>92% of white voters and 95% of non-white voters\r\nthink that telehealth should remain an option for patients beyond the pandemic.\r\n<\/li><li>93% of Kansans living in rural areas believe\r\nthat telehealth is a good way to give patients who live far from major\r\nhospitals and specialists access to health care.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The study also found that when it comes to accessing care, 71%\r\nof non-white Kansans would prefer to see a doctor or health care professional\r\nwho comes from their community, speaks their language, and looks like them. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>\u201cTelehealth eliminates transportation, childcare and time-off work barriers, which saves Kansans time and money. Instead of driving miles out of their way to see a specialist, they can talk to a provider on the device of their choice, from the comfort of their homes,\u201d <\/em>said Brenda Sharpe, President and CEO of the REACH Healthcare Foundation.<em> \u201cIt\u2019s clear that consumers overwhelmingly now want and expect the flexibility and ease of telehealth for their health care needs.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em> <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Most Kansans accessed telehealth services via an audio or\r\nvideo call from their home on their computer, laptop, or smartphone.
