In this podcast, we share inspiring stories of pioneering leaders from our nation and from your backyard who are working to improve health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 38%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In episode 51, we interview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flpadvisors.com\/elliot-regenstein.html\">Elliot Regenstein<\/a>, a partner at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flpadvisors.com\">Foresight Law + Policy<\/a>. He has extensive experience in state-level policy and advocacy, with a particular focus on early learning. He has consulted with more than two dozen states on a wide range of education policy topics.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><a href=\"https:\/\/kansasreflector.com\/author\/sherman-smith\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"529\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/elliot-0601-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9363 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/elliot-0601-web.jpg 529w, https:\/\/healthfund.org\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/elliot-0601-web-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this episode, he shares what led him to focus on K-12 and early childhood education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elliot said many people begin in education and find their way to policy work, but his journey was different. He started in policy work and found his way to education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was working as a municipal and land use lawyer, and a colleague from a previous job was working in a high-up position for the Illinois governor&#8217;s office. They were running a major education initiative, and his colleague contacted him and asked for his help on it. He didn&#8217;t have any experience in education policy at the time, but his colleague promised he could learn it on the job. That was more than 20 years ago. As a governor&#8217;s office staffer, Elliot simultaneously learned all about early childhood education, K-12 education and higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Sometimes I think that&#8217;s given me a really different perspective on how these pieces fit together, but I was certainly very grateful for that opportunity and have been trying to keep learning ever since,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this episode, he also discusses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>School choice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-113c46bd6b34d5aa977a948a49f90550\">Early childhood curriculums<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authoring multiple books about education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successes with states that have established a unified government structure for early childhood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challenges states face<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The importance of local leadership<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The role philanthropy can play in developing early childhood policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How far the early childhood system has come over the last 20 years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And much more!
