Faith in Democracy – Introductory Webinars
Faith in Democracy is a new Healthy Congregations initiative developed in partnership with The Voter Network, a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to ensuring every Kansan is able to be an informed, enthusiastic, engaged voter. Faith in Democracy provides tools to help teams ensure those in their congregations and communities can access the polls, and includes digital resources, a worship resources kit, and regular information on how to help people register to vote, find polling places or vote by mail, and know who is on the ballot. The Voter to Voter tool is an easy-to-use relational advocacy program that gives each congregation the tools to increase voter turnout, to focus on those in our communities who are often underrepresented in the political process, and provides the data to track and measure results. All that’s needed is team of volunteers, and the time involved is minimal. RSVP online for an upcoming webinar or contact Brandi brandijfisher@yahoo.com / 816-679-3837. RSVP is required but doesn’t obligate further participation.

The Giving Grove – special opportunity for Healthy Congregations
In coordination with our partner The Big Garden, the Health Fund is excited to announce a special pilot opportunity for Healthy Congregations in up to 5 Kansas communities to establish Giving Groves – little orchards with big impacts – this fall. Nationwide, The Giving Grove program has helped plant 241 orchards across four states, equating to more than 55 million pounds of fresh produce.  The Giving Grove is a Kansas City-based network of orcharding programs, with a mission to provide healthy calories, strengthen communities, and improve the environment through sustainable little orchards which dramatically increase access to healthy food.
The Big Garden will help partnering sites in local communities prepare for and establish a Giving Grove and will provide ongoing support and training to stewards at each site, who will care for the orchards.  The July 7 webinar with Molly Baurain, Kansas Coordinator for The Big Garden, provides information on the program, timeframe, and details. The presentation slides and a recording of the webinar are available here.
